Safety and Well-Being
On this page, we will provide all the info and resources you need as an LGBTQIA+ person in Rotterdam.
Rotterdam had some of the world’s first gay bars opening in the 1910s and 20s, and in 2001 the Netherlands became the first country to grant legal recognition to same-sex marriage. Rotterdam has even frequently been named one of the most LGBTQIA+ friendly cities in the world, and the queer community can enjoy the freedoms of living in one of the most diverse and inclusive cities in the Netherlands!
Our partner organisation GayRotterdam made a map with all the LGBTQIA+ amenities and events one could wish for. If you are new to the city you should definitely have a look, but it's also worthwhile if you have been around for some time. They also have a list of hotspots that are worth visiting. Next to the hotspots, GayRotterdam are the party whisperers. They know about all the LGBTQIA+ events organized in the city and can tell you everything about them. On the rare occasion that we haven't planned an activity, you can check their calendar to see how you can spend your evening in rainbow style.
We ourselves are a student association, which means that our activities are mainly focused on students (who knew)? However, if you want to get to know more about Rotterdam and the places you can reach out to if you need help, here are some pages that might help you find what you're looking for.
Anything you need to know about support and well-being at Erasmus Pride and EUR you can find at support; if you want to report undesirable behaviour, you can find it at report undesirable behaviour; and additional information about student life and Rotterdam, and gender and sex education can be found on their own respective pages.
